Good Poetry by Matthew J. Beard
The poet is someone or something,
Who's daring enough to put thoughts on paper or parchment,
(Or) A gentle breeze with ease,
Or a violent wind,
Coming from within.
To write down on pages,
Or shout out in rages!
The poet does not need wages
For if it dies,
A bill does not leave with it.
A tax will not be faxed along with the zephyr that carries the spirit with her.
The poet toils hard then feeds on the fruits of labor.
And be he slave or servant bearing the brazen whip,
Or bowing humbly to his master,
He must trust a higher power,
Under which he cowers.
For if it does not it gets in it's own way
And there is nothing left to say.
A poet is dangerous,
When the pen is mightier than the sword.
And he's not afraid to shout out,
Into the crowd,
Because he knows what life's all about.
(To walk away from the mob)
